Quotes and phrases. Some are inspiring, others motivational and a few can be rather witty. There are entire Pinterest boards dedicated to the wonderfully witty, insanely inspiring, and painfully truthful words of the world. It now appears that I've become a slight quote-enthusiast myself and naturally, I can't keep them to myself! So, as I listen to my rainy day playlist and snuggle beneath a plaid blanket, I thought to share a few of my favorite for the month of September:
What are some of your favorite quotes?
Another month has gone by and I'm sitting here in my bedroom, curtains drawn, twinkling lights plugged in, wondering where August went. Secretly, I'm smiling about the end of summer. Gone are the days of sunscreen and sweltering temperatures. (One can only hope.) You never really know what you're going to get in Florida, but being the winter-loving gal I am, I'm dreaming of a somewhat chilly next few months. (Of course, by "chilly" I mean upper 60's... But I'm not complaining.)
Though I happen to live in one of the hottest states in the country, it doesn't hurt to have options for the rare days it gets a bit chiller than the usual. In preparation for this year's cold spell, I recently purchased some cozy knits and sweaters for myself. (Some of the them even have little pockets!!) As unpractical as it sounds, I seem to have quite a few more long-sleeved items in my closet than not.
The long-time tradition of making comfort foods and drinking hot chocolate in adorable coffee mugs is about to begin and I'm dying of excitement. However, weather isn't the only thing to celebrate in the coming seasons. There are plenty of holidays, birthdays, and homecomings to enjoy. (I'm smiling just thinking about them!)
Until the wintery weather arrives, I'll be here in my fuzzy socks, pretending it isn't 88 and rising.
Have any chilly days appeared for you yet? Let me know and I'll be sure to live vicariously through your comment.
When bed rest is almost essential to a full recovery you tend to get creative in attempting to avoid complete and utter boredom. These are some revelations that came to be while being sick in bed for the past 4 days:
1) Watching an entire season of a Canadian television series on Netflix is by far the only productive thing possible.
2) There seems like no limit to the amount of times one can cough in a 30-second interval.
3) You online shop. A LOT.
4) Obviously having way too much time on your hands means creating a dozen new Pinterest boards of things you will never need/use in your entire life. (But actually, you never know if you'll need outfit ideas for twin girls that you may or may not have 15 years from now. So whose really the smart one?)
5) Yes, indeed you can eat the entire pint Talenti gelato in one sitting.
6) Taking naps is a sacred act of pure bliss.
7) Finding out there isn't any more decongestion pills at 9pm is worse than the actual reason for taking them because you'll be thinking about it the rest of the night. (As if falling asleep whilst not being able to breathe wasn't hard enough.)
8) You write tons of blog posts. (The creativeness apparently just flows out of you when I'm sick.)
How do you spend your sick days?
Summer is drawing to a close yet again. The weather can be quite deceiving in Florida, but alas, there is nearly one month until Autumn arrives and pumpkin everything becomes available in a store near you. I've come to the conclusion that the end of this stifling season is incredibly bittersweet.
Senior year not only means my final 9 months in high school, but an entire string of "lasts" that make me want to cherish all of the little moments.
- I will most likely be living at a university by this time next August, which makes this my last year at home. The dorm rooms I've seen are more like hotels with all of the amenities you can imagine, but I'll still miss the home-cooked meals and company of my family.
- Although I'll always be a kid at heart--giant stuffed animals and sparkly Minnie Mouse ears included--I turn 18 at the end of December. This is a concept that has always been foreign to me. All of a sudden I can have a credit card, vote, buy a lottery ticket, lease my own house, and even take a trip to Vegas. Talk about superpowers, huh?
- The biggest one: this is the last time my life will be exactly how it is now. It's hard to explain if you're a live-in-the-moment kind of person, but coming from someone who plans everything, so much change happening in a short period of time is completely overwhelming.
Picturing all of these things (and more) happening within a 12-month stretch is something I have a hard time wrapping my mind around. I suppose I'm grateful though--now I only cherish the little things even more.
Officially, I still have a few days left to enjoy my summer holiday. Then it's back to classes, schedules, and responsibilities I've somehow managed to leave behind for the past 3 months. Complaining about the return to school is almost a rite of passage to the modern-day child, but I'm looking forward to this year more than ever. It will be one of firsts, lasts, and and any other things that reveal themselves.
Any highlights of your summer holiday? What amazing things are going planning to do this year?
As you may know, I'm not exactly a fan of what Florida has to offer during the summer. (Stifling upper 90's temperatures, the need to apply loads of sunscreen so I don't end up looking like a tomato, etc.) Putting the weather aside, July has been a good month for me all in all. Although I wasn't in Portugal like last year, I had new experiences here in Florida that were still pretty great…
I went to our local Saturday Morning Market a few times, as well as my most recent favorite place to shop—IKEA! During a weekend vacation to visit family in Southern Florida, I took up coloring. It's safe to say that I'm completely obsessed, as you might have noticed from my previous post.
In major news, this is the last month before I officially become a senior in high school! This time in my life has always seemed so much further away than it actually was and now it's coming full speed ahead. I started touring universities which has made me way to excited/nervous/eager for the next few years of my life.
As you can also probably tell from many of my photos in July that I've been musing over my next trip. I'm planning on doing another Europe adventure this coming summer holiday. I guess I've always had the "travel bug" in me, but now that I'm getting older I'm getting more opportunities to explore!
My bucket list for August:
- begin saving for next summer
- finish a coloring book (of course by then I'll have bought another 5)
- celebrate the little things
- start the school year off on a good note
- take pictures of everything
